Wildcat Gridiron Outlook 2007

We have put together a solid football team for the 2007 season. Our special teams will be strong with the return of All-American punter/kicker Ryan Smith SR 6-1 231 Atlanta, Georgia. He brings great leadership and experience to this position. Our place kicking duties will be held down by Derek Doerfler JR 5-11 213 Lee’s Summit, MO. He has a huge leg, and won the job late last season. We are going to miss Tanner Purdum as our long snapper; he did a super job for four years and is pursuing it as a career in the NFL. We will ask Herb Askew JR 5-8 166 Kingman, AZ, to take over those duties.

Offensively, we return 10 starters with a lot of game experience. Our QB position is solid with Mack Brown; SO 6-3 215 Liberty, MO returning with 10 starts under his belt. He will be backed up by Kendall Bradley; JR 6-5 242 Rogersville, MO our starter from two years ago who was redshirted last year. Both young men can win football games in the HAAC. Joining these two in the backfield will be running back by committee, led by returning starter Richie Bryant; JR 5-11 205 Louisiana, MO; Frank Owens; SR 6-0 212 Dallas, TX; Blaine Crow; FR 5-9 200 Liberty, MO; AJ Fruits; FR 5-10 188 Olathe, KS; Jamie Resseguie; SO 5-10 190 Lawrence, KS; Beau Smith; SR 5-4 187 San Diego, CA. We have a great WR crew put together, and expect great things out of this bunch. James Hensley; JR 6-0 160 Rose Hill, KS returns with over 1,000 yards in his first two years. Brad Fawcett; SO 5-10 185 Grapevine, TX had 19 catches in the last two weeks after returning from an injury. Big-time fireworks will come from Tyrell Spain; SR 6-3 195 San Diego, CA transfer WR from University of Nebraska. His brother Marcus Nolan; SR 6-4 207 San Diego, CA will provide a big target who can run after the catch. We have many more guys that will step in and make big plays for us in this position. This is a very tough and physical group. The TE position will be occupied by Alfonso Nino; SO 6-1 256 Houston, TX a very athletic guy, who started at DE at times for us last year. Our offensive line returns intact, except for the center position which we dove into the junior college ranks for some help. Matt Kinsman; JR 6-0 273 Mission, KS hopefully will anchor us at the center position. Our tackles will be Matt Hiss; SR 6-4 298 Great Bend, KS and Andy Bibb; JR 6-2 295 Springdale, AR both two-year starters. Our guards will be Clint Benge; SO 6-3 309 Lenexa, KS,an all-conference candidate; and Eric Munoz; JR 6-0 255 Springdale, AR. Jeff Juiliano, Phil Collins, Martin McDonald, and Kyle Ruona will all push for quality playing time.

Defensively, we return 9 starters from a solid group of players. Our front four should be very athletic, led by Philip Weinmaster; JR 6-1 261 Lawrence, KS a two-year starter. Levi Calhoun; SO 6-0 248 Oklahoma City, OK a starter as a true freshman. Brad Thimmesch; FR 6-3 220 Wichita, KS a medical redshirt last year. Kyle Weinmaster FR 6-1 240 Lawrence, KS a two way all-state athlete. Steve Underwood, David Malone, Alphaeus Williams, and Lars Lucear should battle for significant playing time. Our linebackers are led by Micah Mason; SR 6-0 237 Baldwin City, KS an All-American candidate. Brad Page; SR 5-11 200 Paola, KS a great leader that has a nose for the football. Spencer Curran; JR 5-10 217 Kansas City, KS a tough guy in the middle. Our secondary will be solid and filled with playmakers. Eric Allen; JR 5-11 178 San Diego, CA a two-year starter will battle for All-American honors. At the other corner will be DJ Carter; SR 5-7 177 Houston, TX a very good athlete. Herb Askew; JR 5-8 166 Kingman, AZ will quarterback our defense and provide great leadership. Colton Miller; FR 6-3 200 Largo, FL has a chance to make an immediate impact. Olgens Pierre, Collin Maguire, Davon Davis, and Rodney Harris will battle for playing time.

We plan on putting an exciting product on the field. We hope you enjoy the 07 Wildcat football season!

Coach Grossner
