Sept. 2 | Baker wins opening game
Baker rallied for a 17-13 victory over Benedictine in the season opener on Sept. 2.
Benedictine had two chances late in the fourth quarter to take the lead but a goal-line stand and interception stopped all advances. On the Ravens final drive junior linebacker Brad Page picked up the second interception, he also recovered a fumble earlier in the game.
The Wildcats intercepted two passes and recovered three fumbles, and had two defensive stops that helped preserve Baker's win.
Baker scored two touchdowns, one before the half and the other in the fourth quarter.
The first touchdown with nine seconds remaining in the first half closed the Ravens lead to three. No scoring would occur until the fourth quarter when freshman quarterback Mack Brown found tight end Taylor Burnett in the end zone for the second time in the game.
Brown, a transfer from the University of Colorado, completed 14 of 31 passes in his first start for the Wildcats. He had touchdown passes of one and seven yards, and picked up 36 yards on six rushing attempts.
The Wildcats had trouble moving the ball, rushing the ball 28 times for 59 yards.
The victory over the Ravens was the first since 1999.
Baker will play its first home game Saturday, Sept. 9, against Graceland University. The Yellow Jackets (1-0) beat Avila in their season opener. The Wildcats defense will have their hands full with quarterback Clayton Braddock, regarded as one of the best in the NAIA.
Kickoff will be at 6 p.m. at Liston Stadium.
