rally falls short
Baker University trailed early
again, this time to Central Methodist University in Fayette, Mo.
The Eagles built a two-touchdown lead in the first
quarter on a six-play, 88-yard drive and a blocked punt returned for
a touchdown.
The Wildcats responded, blocking a Central Methodist punt and
returning it for a touchdown to make the score 14-7 heading into
halftime. For the season, Baker has returned three blocked kicks for touchdowns. The Wildcats returned two blocked punts in the victory
over William Jewell College on Sept 16.
Junior Micah Mason scored on a 21-yard run early in the fourth quarter to pull the Wildcats event, 14-14.
Both teams went back-and-forth in the fourth quarter until Central Methodist reached Baker's five-yard line to kick the game-winning
field goal.
The game-winning drive started as a result of
a fumble.
Mason led the Wildcats in rushing with 16 carries for 75 yards.
Baker's defense rebounded from the loss at home
against Evangel. They held the Eagles to 234 yards total offense. Sophomore defensive
end Andrew Patch did not play due to an injury. He is scheduled to return
next week.
The Wildcats' next game will be their homecoming
contest. Baker will take on No. 10 Missouri
Valley College, first in the Heart of America Athletic Conference. Kickoff will be at 2 p.m. at Liston Stadium.
