Prior to Baker: In high school, Smith was a four-year letter winner in track. All-conference pole vault his sophomore through senior year. He was also a three-year letterman in football, helping the Panthers to two back-to-back undefeated seasons and two consecutive state titles, receiving all-conference honors.
