Recognizes with Appreciation

Bill Hey ‘51

Who has brought honor to the University through his own athletic achievements and through his service to his country, community and University.

Attended Baldwin High School, where he played quarterback, wing back and defensive back for the Bulldogs under fellow Baker Hall-of-Famer Charlie Bonebrake.  Lettered three years.  Started 27 games in sophomore through senior seasons, compiling a 31-0-1 record.  Placed second in 120-yard high hurdles at state meet his senior year at Baldwin High School.  Graduated Baldwin High School May 1943 and went into service in June.  Spent four years as a Marine pilot during World War II, where he flew for Gen. Marshall’s Cease Fire Team in China.  Returned to military service during the Korean Conflict.  Lettered in track at Baker, running the 120 high hurdles and 220 low hurdles.  Member of Sigma Phi Epsilon.  Made Baker Hall of Fame Club  in 1978-79 and was member of Baker Alumni Family of the Year in 1981.  Has served on Baker’s Board of Trustees and Alumni Board.  An avid Baker sports fan. Has attended every Wildcat football playoff game since 1980. A partner of Hey Machinery in Baldwin.  Hey’s strong involvement at the University and in the community made possible Metzger/Hey Track and Field Complex, an all-weather track complex built in 1992 at Liston Stadium.
