Baker University Athletic Hall of Fame Member Harry M. "Cap" Sheue

1980 Inductee Baker University Harry M. “Cap” Sheue Who has brought honor to the University through his contributions as an athlete, high school coach, and for distinguished civic service.
1951 set Kansas state high school record in the high jump. Captained the 1916 Baker freshman football team. Lettered in football, basketball and track as a sophomore. Spent junior year in France and Germany as a sergeant in the Army. Returned to Baker as a freshman physical education instructor — ruled ineligible for varsity athletics. Coached 1921-23 at Osawatomie High School. Had winning records in all sports; founded the school’s first Hi-Y Club. Coach at Bartlesville (Okla.) High School, 1923-24. Became active in Y.M.C.A. Work. Received master’s degree from the University of Southern California; studied under Knute Rockne, visiting professor. Coached seven sports over 35 years at Huntington Beach (Calif.) High School winning league championships in six sports. Recipient of three Helms Athletic Foundation Awards. Elected to the California Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1956. The student body voted to name the school’s athletic field and stadium “Sheue Field.” Thirty of his former students have chosen coaching as their profession.
