Nov. 13 | Watkins seals perfect record with late jumper
Approaching 1,000 career points as a Wildcat, it may not be as tough to find the biggest shot in senior D.J. Watkins career after tonight.
With Baker and Ottawa trading scores down the stretch it was Watkins 8-foot pull up jumper that clinched the game for Wildcats 73-72 and back into the win column for the fifth time this season.
With five minutes remaining the Wildcats were sparked by senior Nate Pedrow, who had left the game earlier with an apparent ankle injury ignited the post game, and rallying the Wildcats ahead to a 71-70 lead with less than a minute remaining.
Ottawa went down and scored a quick basket, but left enough time for Baker to come down the court and for Watkins to hit the game winning shot. Watkins ended the night with six points.
Pedrow finished with 17 points, with the majority coming within the final few minutes. Juniors Aaron Toren and Taylor Parker did their part leading the team in rebounding and assists respectively.
After the game, head coach Rick Weaver said he was happy with the win, but knows the remaining schedule will be tough.
Wednesday night, the Wildcats play NCAA's University of Missouri - Kansas City at Municipal Auditorium in downtown Kansas City. The Kangaroos opened their regular season Monday night. They were beat by Park University in an exhibition game last week.
Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. For more on upcoming games visit the schedule page.
