Head coach Rick Weaver (rick.weaver@bakeru.edu)

Weaver enters his 23nd season as head men’s basketball coach of Baker University, where he is the program’s all-time win leader with 328 victories. A three-time Heart of America Athletic Conference coach of the year, Weaver graduated in 1972 from Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa, where he was an All-North Central Conference selection. He received a master’s degree in 1977 from Iowa State University while teaching and coaching at Jefferson (Iowa) High School before serving as a graduate assistant at Eastern Kentucky during the 1977-78 season. From 1978 to 1980, Weaver was the head coach at Westmar College in LeMars, Iowa. He was the head coach from 1980 to 1985 at Wayne State in Wayne, Neb., before coming to Baker. Weaver’s 1989 Wildcat squad earned a share of the school’s first ever HAAC basketball title and his 1996 team set a school record for wins (25) while earning a trip to the NAIA national tournament.

 

Assistant coach Terry Zerr

“Coach Z” is in his eighth season as assistant coach at Baker. He served as an assistant at Johnson County for one year after being the head coach for seven years at Eudora High School. Zerr graduated in 1986 from Fort Hays State and earned a master’s degree from the University of Kansas in 1999.

 

 

 

 

Assistant coach Brandon Mellen
Mellen is in his third year assisting Baker after coaching at Fort Scott Community College and Northern Heights. He graduated in 2000 from Emporia State University and teaches at South Junior High School in Lawrence.
