Senior shortstop Kendra Cody, a two-time All-American and three-time
All-HAAC shortstop, leads Baker University into the 2007 softball season, which opens Feb. 21 with a home doubleheader against Briar Cliff.
Cody, of Longton, Kan., batted .347 with five home runs and a .605 slugging percentage as a junior.
“She will lead the team this year both on and off the field,” Baker coach Jennifer Rigdon said.
Senior Leslie Kersting, a first baseman from Topeka, Kan., has been a clutch hitter for the Wildcats. She batted .328 as a junior.
Other key offensive players are Alexis Pryor, a sophomore catcher and outfielder from Overbrook, Kan.; Sarah Wright, a junior outfielder from Paola; Jayde Allen, a sophomore outfielder from Topeka, Kan.; Stephanie Nelson, a freshman pitcher/outfielder from Paola, Kan.; and MarKaye Strickland, a freshman pitcher/outfielder from Pearland, Texas.
Speed also will be a strength for the Wildcats with Cody, Allen, sophomore Andrea Marinari, Nelson and freshman Kelsey Epperson.
“We look forward to a strong season and are shooting for that conference title,” Rigdon said.
