-Baldwin City, KS. - Over this past weekend, the Baker University Women’s Volleyball Team hosted the Baker Invitational.  The Wildcats use this event in preparing for the upcoming conference season.  Friday evening the Wildcats took on (Division II) Newman University.  After losing the first two sets, Baker fought back to win the third set before falling in the fourth to the overpowering Newman Jets.  The team was led by Alexis Pryor who had 11 kills during the four sets.  Later in the evening, The Wildcats took on John Brown University.  Things did not seem to get any better.  The Wildcats fell in three straight sets to the Golden Eagles, dropping their overall season record to 2-4.  Coach Allen tried to emphasize how important it was to get back on track Saturday by making some big lineup changes against Grandview University.  At one point during the match-up, four freshmen were utilized on the floor.  Prior to the season opener Allen stated, “This is one of the most talented freshman classes I’ve ever recruited.”  She proved that point on Saturday.  With resiliency, the Wildcats came out and took game one against Grandview.  From there, the Wildcats put the game on cruise control and swiftly defeated Grandview three games to one.  Next up for the Wildcats was the Oklahoma City University Stars.  Riding their momentum Baker came out in set one and played the stars tough defeating them 25-18.  However, all good things come to an end, Baker ran out of gas late in the fourth set against Oklahoma City and fell three sets to one.  Click here to view full stats from this weekend.
