BAKER UNIVERSITY WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

2007-08 SEASON OUTLOOK

The 2007-08 Baker University women’s basketball team is filled with a lot of new faces as well as some familiar ones.  After a disappointing season a year ago, the Wildcats are hungry to get back into the upper mix of the conference.  With the recruitment of 8 new players, 6 of which are freshman, Coach Decker is looking to fill some very important spots that are wide open this season.  The Wildcats return a few key players from last season including Allie Heinen, a senior post player is coming off a record breaking season in the rebounding category.  Allie is the all-time season leader in rebounding at Baker University with 292 rebounds in a single season.  Lauren Shufelberger, a junior shooting guard will be called upon this season to help the outside scoring production.  Kendra Schaefer, a sophomore point guard will also be called upon to help lead the team at the point position.

Key recruits include Kaitlin Schneden, a junior from Kirkwood Community College and Whitney Rogers, a junior from Oklahoma Baptist University.  Both of these players will bring a competitive attitude to the team as well as the six freshman.  The freshman will also be called upon to add depth at all positions as well as a competitive attitude to the court.

This years schedule is one of the most difficult the program has seen in recent years.  Each and every game will be a challenge, but will give the team the opportunity to play against very good competition early to prepare them for the rugged HAAC.  The Wildcat’s first nine games are on the road with six of the nine teams making the national tournament a year ago.

Baker will look to attack with their defensive intensity and rely on the running game to score easy baskets in transition.  The Wildcats hope to get back on track in the HAAC and continue in the right direction under eighth year Head Coach Susan Decker.
