Poor second-half lifts Culver to win over Baker
Baker University, shot 28 percent from the floor in the second half, giving Culver-Stockton College a 65-63 victory in Baldwin City, Kan.
Baker opened the game with an 11-0 run, and led by as many as 17 points against Culver-Stockton before halftime. The Wildcats’ forced eight turnovers,outrebound Culver-Stockton by seven, and held Culver-Stockton to seven of 25 shooting.
At halftime, Baker led 34-20 with senior guard Molly Ediger scoring 10 points to lead all scores at the break.
Culver-Stockton jumped back into the game starting the second half with a 10-0 run. Baker would push the lead to eight, but Culver-Stockton stayed with Baker thanks to play of the interior. They would take the lead after converting a three-point play with five minutes left to play.
Teams would trade baskets down the stretch, Baker relying heavily on free throws to hang with Culver-Stockton
Senior center Amanda Yates, who scored 21 points, tied the score at 63 with 30 seconds left from the free throw line, but Culver-Stockton traversed the floor, using three timeouts, to set up a two-point basket with 1.7 seconds remaining for the win.
