Feb. 1 | Baker lights out against Graceland, sets several season highs

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. - The Wildcats played so well that even a power outage power throughout the town couldn't stop them from beating Graceland University (12-10, 6-8), 82-54.

Baker University (9-15, 3-11) commanded the game from start to finish, setting several season marks before the night was through.

Junior Allie Heinen (DeSoto, Kan.) had the most impressive night, pulling a career-high 20 rebounds. The mark is also a season-high and one shy of the single game record set by Shannon Gale in 1995. Nine of Heinen's rebounds were offensive, also setting a new career- and season-high.

Senior Amanda Yates (Silver Lake, Kan.) also set several highs for her career as well. Yates pulled in a total of 19 rebounds establishing a new career-high for her, and also setting the defensive rebound mark for the Wildcats this season.

Baker begun the game with a 9-0 run, with would prompt most coaches to call a timeout. However, Graceland head coach Opie Butler waited until the tenth minute to call a timeout, after Baker held a commanding 23-6 led.

Before the half, Graceland guard Ieshia Randall's (Dallas, Texas) free-throws were interrupted by a power-outage. Power was restored fifteen minutes later and played resumed as normal for the remainder of the night.

The Wildcats, who earlier blew a 14-point halftime led, picked up their tempo in the second-half shooting 54.8 percent from the floor.

Baker scored a season-high 82 points. Senior Molly Ediger (Prairie Village, Kan.) led five Wildcats in double-figures, with 14 points. Heinen and Yates scored 13, while guards Lauren Shufelberger (Topeka, Kan.) and Holly Steffen (Lenexa, Kan.) finished with 10.

Yates and Heinen helped the Wildcats record 59 total rebounds.

Baker travels to St. Charles, Mo., to face Lindenwood University on Saturday. The Lions defeated the Wildcats 59-55 earlier this season.

The next home is schedule for Feb. 5, against No. 9 MidAmerica Nazarene University. Visit the schedule page for more upcoming games.
