HannonWith ties to the Baker University baseball team since 1983, Phil Hannon has served as head coach of the Wildcats since July 1999.

Hannon has brought a wealth of baseball experience to Baker. He played minor league baseball in the Chicago Cubs organization for five years and coached and managed at the minor league level for another three years.

Hannon excelled as an athlete at Lexington (Mo.) High School from 1978 to 1982, where he received multiple letters in football and baseball. Hannon continued his athletic success at Baker, where he started and lettered all four years as a wide receiver for the football team and a center fielder for the baseball team while earning a bachelor's degree in physical education in 1986.

Hannon caught the eye of scouts during his senior year at Baker and signed with the Cubs after graduation, beginning his five-year run as a player in the minor leagues where he reached the AA level in 1990. The next two years Hannon coached at Geneva, N.Y., and Huntington, W.Va., before leaving the Cubs organization in 1993 to manage the High Desert Mavericks of the California League.

Hannon also serves as coordinator of outdoor facilities. He lives in Baldwin City with his wife, Charlene, and their four children. His eldest son, Andy, was a member of the Wildcat basketball and baseball teams. His second son, Aaron, is a member of Baker's track and field team. And his daughter, Annie, is a member of the softball team.
