Recruiting Update
Alan Callahan
Baldwin City, KS. - After an outstanding four-year career as a Baldwin Bulldog wrestler, state runner-up Alan Callahan has signed to wrestle for the BAKER UNIVERSITY WILDCATS.
Callahan will compete at 125 pounds for BU, joining a class of approximately 25 incoming Baker wrestlers from Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma and Nevada. Callahan will wrestle for new Baker Wildcat coach Jimmy May, who was hired to lead the BU program after more than 30 years of a very successful coaching career in Las Vegas, Nev.
For BHS, Callahan was a four-time state qualifier and three-time state placer and a state runner-up as a senior. He and his brother Kevin tied the state record for most career wins with 171. Callahan also set two BHS school records: takedowns (120) and team points (299). He is the only Bulldog to be named to three senior All-Star duals. He was named the Lawrence Journal-World's Wrestler of the Year.
Ryan Woods
Ryan Woods, of Harrisonville, Mo., comes to Baker with a 40-8 senior season record and a 129-42 high school career record. The three-time state qualifier has placed sixth at the Missouri state tournament, was team leader in takedowns with 130 in his senior season and was Academic All-State in Missouri.
Jordan McGuire
Edmond, Okla., standout Jordan McGuire comes to Baker with an overall varsity record of 120-35. During his senior season he became a five-time high school All-American, a freestyle and Greco-Roman state champion, 6A academic state champion, and a 2009 6A Oklahoma state qualifier (giving up 20 pounds).
Roger Windham
Windham comes to Baker as a 2009 NHSCA Senior All-American (third place) and 2009 Kansas state champion. At the end of his senior season, Windham was ranked third nationally by USA Wrestling magazine.
Brandon Scott
In Scott's final year at Westover High School in Albany Ga., he posted an overall record of 40-2 while reaching the GHSA AAA State Championship. "I'm really excited about it [coming to Baker]," said Scott, who also played linebacker and fullback. "It's a new wrestling program there, and there's nothing hanging over my head. I don't have to be like anybody else. I can be the first-ever athlete to accomplish something there."
Brandon Gebhardt
"The guy is a stud. He's the real deal when it comes to wrestling," stated Head Coach Jimmy May. Gebhardt's wrestling career highlights include:
- Four-year varsity letter winner, 153-45, 111 pins
- Three-year team captain
- Three-time 4A regional medalist
- Two-time 4A regional champion
- Two-time Upper Weight Wrestler of the Year
- Two-time 4A state champion
Jacob Nowak
Nowak joins the Wildcats after completing a decorated career at St. Thomas Aquinas High School. After posting a 6-4 record in the 189-pound weight class as a freshman, Nowak jumped up to the 285-pound weight class as a sophomore, posting a 33-4 record and placing fifth in the Kansas 5A state tournament. As a junior, he wrestled again in the 285-pound weight class, putting up a record of 41-8 and finishing third at state. As a senior, Nowak dropped down to the 215-pound weight class and posted an impressive record of 46-1, his only loss coming in the semifinals of the state tournament. In addition, Nowak was named Regional Wrestler of the Year and was a team captain. He finished his career with a record of 126-17.
Nowak has maintained a 3.3 GPA throughout high school and plans to study business administration or economics at Baker. Other activities in high school included football and rugby.
