Baker splits with Ottawa to open 2012 season

BU splits with Ottawa

OTTAWA, Kan. – It was damp cold and muggy, but the Baker University softball team opened its 2012 campaign with a split against Ottawa University on Thursday afternoon.

Game one saw Ottawa jump out to an early 4-0 lead over the first two innings, but Baker managed to climb back into the game late, tallying runs in the fourth and sixth innings to make things interesting in the 4-2 loss. Summer Kelley had the lone RBI in the game for the Wildcats. Maggie Holmberg was pegged with the loss after pitching six innings while giving up eight hits and two earned runs.

Vollenwieder twins sign with Baker softball

Vollenwieder Twins Sign

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – Cassville (Mo.) High School seniors Cari and Kelsi Vollenwieder have signed letter of intents to play softball at Baker University in the fall of 2012, head coach Matt Windle announced late last week.

Family roots don’t stem far from Baker, as their older sister Brittany enters her senior season on the Wildcats pitching staff.  Their father Mark Vollenweider played on the 1986 NAIA National Championship runner-up football team.

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – With the 2011 softball season right around the corner, head softball coach Matt Windle continues to prepare the team for the future with three new signees for the 2012 fall­ season.
