Thurbon named NAIA Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – After garnering HAAC Field of the Week honors on Monday, sophomore Katie Thurbon was selected as the NAIA Women’s Field Athlete of the week the national office announced Wednesday.
Thurbon, a Topeka, Kan., native broke a personal best and school record at the Nebraska Wesleyan Invitational held on Jan. 20. Her mark of 12’ 1 ½ put her in second place at the event and moved her into a tie for the top vault in the NAIA this season.
Wildcats grab two HAAC Athletes of the Week in Nebraska
LINCOLN, Neb. – For the second weekend in a row the Baker University indoor track and field teams competed in Lincoln, Neb., at the Nebraska Wesleyan University Invitational.
Katie Thurbon highlighted both the men’s and women’s efforts, breaking a school record in the pole vault with a mark of 3.70 meters. This mark also eclipsed the “A” qualifying standard for the NAIA Indoor National Championships, set to be held March 1-3 in Geneva, Ohio. With her performance she was named the HAAC Field Athlete of the Week.

BU track and field rolling along in 2012 indoor season
LINCOLN, Neb. – For the second consecutive weekend, the Baker University track and field team will be heading back to the University of Nebraska for the NWU Invitational set to be held Jan. 20-21 at the Bob Devaney Center.
Coach Kindler believe his squad is progressing nicely early in the season, “Our coaching staff is pleased with the progression we are seeing,” Kindler said. “Aaron Caldwell braking Chad Marshall’s mile record that stood since 1993 was huge. On the women’s side it was exciting to see Tyler Sloan run the fastest 200-meter in Baker women’s history.”
