University President Pat Long announced Friday, Feb. 8, to the Baker Board of Trustees that she will retire on June 30, 2014. The Board will begin its search for a new president in the coming weeks.
Chemistry major Jackie Thompson, 2012, feels the variety of courses she took at Baker prepared her well for the Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Kansas Medical School.
Over the Christmas break, while tending to a stack of items on my desk, I found a copy of a Baker University News Bulletin from the fall semester of my sophomore year. I enjoyed looking back through its contents and have used some of what I read in this issue of the Arbor.
The intent of the Arbor has always been a communication tool to inform, perhaps entertain and further engage you with the University. That being said, I feel it is important here at the end of 2012 and in the face of potentially detrimental legislation to present information not only in favor of financially supporting this institution but also in favor of supporting philanthropy in general.
Although Zack and Kelsey (Epperson) Rockey, ’10, both planned to pursue careers in broadcasting, they have taken different paths. They credit the media skills they acquired at Baker for their success in their current careers.
Kristin Bock, ’05, has found a career in the Sporting Kansas City franchise that lets her match two of her passions: soccer and media.
Every month I get a question or two about how the Arbor is produced. So I thought I would provide details about how this special newsletter comes together.
A 2008 graduate of the School of Nursing, Laci Lingenfelter works in the critical care unit at Stormont-Vail HealthCare and is an adjunct faculty member for Baker. The history with Stormont-Vail and the critical thinking skills acquired at Baker contribute to Lingenfelter’s work.
