1940s

The Rev. Franklin Greene, ’42, recently retired after 70-plus years of active ministry. He was honored in May 2010 by Baker University with the Alumni Citation Award.

1950s

JJ Lanning, BA ’50, received an honorary doctorate at the May 2010 Baker commencement ceremony.

Dick Soulen, BA ’54, and his wife, Peggy, recently traveled to Georgia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan, increasing the number of countries they have visited around the world to 95. Dick’s recent book, Sacred Scripture: A Short History of Interpretation, published by Westminster John Knox, 2009, is being translated in its longer version and adapted for the church in China. The fourth edition of his Handbook of Biblical Criticism is due out soon. Dick continues to teach in the School of Theology at Virginia Union University in Richmond, Va. The Soulens live in Williamsburg, Va.

1960s

Susanne Richardson Teel, fs ’69, received an honorary doctorate at the May 2010 Baker commencement ceremony. She recently completed a term as chair of the Baker University Board of Trustees.

1980s

Margaret Engler, BA ’84, received National Board Certification in November 2008, and earned a Master of Arts in Education in May 2010. She is a high school teacher in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Scott Hollister, ’89, was recently promoted to editor-in-chief of Golf Course Management magazine, the monthly publication of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America.

Jon Parks, ’85, a Wichita physician, is the president and CEO of the Kansas Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, a nonprofit industry advocate.

Matt Whitworth, CAS ’80, was sworn in last year as a United States Magistrate Judge in the United States District Court for the Western District of Missouri after a 22-year career as an assistant United States attorney. He is assigned to the federal courthouse in Jefferson City, Mo. He and his wife, Jeanie Mancuso Whitworth, CAS ’80, live in Central Missouri.

1990s

Rachel (Huhn) Langford, BS ’99, and Seth Langford, BS ’01, welcomed son William Thomas, born on Nov. 22, 2009. The Langfords also have a daughter, Riley.

Jeffrey Portsche, ’96, and Nichelle Portsche, ’97, welcomed daughter Kelsey Steele Portsche, born on Nov. 6, 2010. Kelsey has three older sisters, Madisyn, Hailey and Calley.

Dick Stephens, BS ’90, is president and owner of Varsity Communication Inc. in Seattle. Over the past 20 years, magazine coverage, sports marketing representation and consulting work has taken Stephens to Holland, Germany, Austria, France, Switzerland, England, Scotland, Ireland, Northern Ireland and Canada. His wife, Merideth Hartman Stephens, ’91, is a practice manager for Bothell Women’s Health. They live in Snohomish, Wash., with their three children, Lily, 13; Simon, 11; and Fletcher, 6. They attended the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver.

2000s

Susan Baca, BA ’07, and Jesse Lentz were married July 25, 2010 in Overland Park, Kan.

Jessica Berg, BSN ’04, is a neonatal intensive care unit nurse in the Chicago area and recently became certified in NICU nursing.

Claire Norland, CAS ’09, and Denver Little, CAS ’10, were married July 10, 2010 in the Gardens of the Osborne Memorial Chapel on the Baldwin City campus.

Kia Breaux, MSM ’05, was recently named chief of bureau for the Associated Press in Missouri and Kansas. She had served as acting bureau chief since 2008, overseeing AP’s news and business operations in the territory.

Ben Chapman, BS ’03 and MASL ’10, was recently named principal of Holy Trinity Catholic School in Paola. He is the son of Perry Chapman, director of computer services, and Diane Chapman, BS ’94 and MASL ’03.

Derek Doerfler, ’09, and Karrie Potter, fs ’08, were married July 3, 2010, at First United Methodist Church in Baldwin City.

Evan Durnal, BS ’05, and Amanda Carey were married August 1, 2009, in Kansas City, Mo. They live in Mission, Kan.

JoAnne Fluke, BA ’00, was featured in August in the documentary “Dancer with Tiny Legs” on The Learning Channel.

Blake Glover, BA ’04, and Hailey Glover, welcomed a son, Bryce Camden Glover, on Dec. 22 in Dallas.  Bryce is the grandson of Myra Glover, executive assistant to the president, and Bill Glover, SPGS adjunct faculty. He is the nephew of Chad Glover, BS ’02.

David Hendershot, BA ’04, is a second-grade teacher at Abilene Elementary School in Valley Center, Kan.

John Hill, BA ’03, and Lindsay Sowder were married in June 2009. He is the head baseball coach at Fort Scott Community College.

Clayton Kellerman, ’08, and Laura Paul, ’10, were married June 12, 2010, in Edgerton, Kan.

Heather Kenney, Ed.D ’08, was recently named Outstanding New Principal by the Kansas City Suburban Elementary Principals Association. She is the principal at Summit Pointe Elementary School in Kansas City. She previously worked as assistant principal at Cedar Creek Elementary and as an elementary teacher and curriculum project coordinator in the North Kansas City School District.

Emilee Merry Kuhn, BS ’06, has been named a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society. She is an assistant actuary at Allstate Insurance Co. in Northbrook, Ill.

Lindsay Johnson LaBonte, BS ’98, and Brian LaBonte were married Dec. 31, 2010, at First United Methodist Church in Baldwin City.

Brittney Leiker, SOE ’10, and Matt Kinsman, CAS ’09, were married Dec. 11, 2010, at Central United Methodist Church in Kansas City, Mo.

Vicky Hildebrondt McGrath, MBA ’09, is director of the Cotton-O’Neil Cancer Center. McGrath has 27 years of experience in health care, including six years in oncology nursing services and management. She was nurse manager of the cancer center and the Cotton-O’Neil Digestive Health Center before being named director.

Eric Munoz, BA ’10, is the defensive line coach at Hutchinson Community College.

Dana Phelps, BME ’08, and Matthew Gillam were married June 5, 2010, in Kansas City, Mo. Minister to the University Ira DeSpain officiated the ceremony and Trilla Lyerla, professor of music, was the musician.

James Reyes, CAS ’05, and Jennifer Uden, CAS ’05, were married July 24, 2010, in Kansas City, Mo. They live in Gladstone, Mo.

Jaclyn Rivera, MBA ’09, is a contracting specialist in military construction for the Kansas City District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Cole Ridley, CAS ’07, and Aubree Caston were married on September 18, 2010, at First United Methodist Church in Baldwin City.

Nikki Sinclair, BS ’01, was named the Outstanding Occupational Therapy Student for the class of 2010 at Midwestern University in Phoenix, an osteopathic medical school.
