Alumni invited to experience “Baker Magic”

Alumni and friends of Baker University are invited to celebrate “The Baker Magic” at the annual gala and auction on Saturday, Nov. 14, at the Hyatt Regency Crown Center in Kansas City, Mo.

A fund-raiser for the University’s general scholarships, the black-tie optional dinner and auction benefits all four Baker schools — College of Arts and Sciences, School of Professional and Graduate Studies, School of Nursing and School of Education.

“The experience ‘Baker Magic’ theme will provide our graduates an opportunity to share their legacies,” said Lindsay Vise, assistant director of development and a 2003 graduate of the University. “Our alumni will talk about their personal growth, their lifelong commitment to learning new things and forming lasting relationships because of Baker University.”

Modeled after the successful sesquicentennial celebration in 2008, “The Baker Magic” will feature a silent auction and fund-a-scholar program. University Advancement hopes to surpass the $90,000 raised during the 150th celebration.

Current Baker students will entertain guests with live music and share their Baker experiences. “Our goal is to make the gala and auction the premier fund-raising event for the University,” Vise said. “The students will be a big part of the program, telling their stories about how the scholarships they received have impacted their lives.”

Generous donors have contributed several items to be given away at the auction. Among the donations are a guitar autographed by the Jonas Brothers, golf packages and stays at Jackson Hole, Wyoming; North Carolina and Mexico. After the event, alumni and friends are invited to continue the celebration at a coffee bar at the Hyatt Regency.

Tickets for the event are $150 per person. Table sponsorships begin at $1,500. “We encourage our alumni to get their friends, their pledge class, their teammates together and reserve a table of 10,” Vise said.

Connie Sollars, ’72, and Gary Coleman, ’72, are chairing the auction and corporate table sponsorship committee. “They are the ones who help us get the corporate tables, know of friends to get the special golf and trip packages,” Vise said.
