Denise Kendall, MSSL ’10, is principal at Eudora (Kan.) Middle School.

Matt Miller, Ed. D. ’11, was recently named Lee’s Summit (Mo.) R-7 director of student services. He previously was principal at Trailridge Elementary in Lee’s Summit.

Kelsey Mishler, SON ’10, married Michael Younger on Oct. 8, 2011, in Lawrence, Kan.

Allyson Shove, MBA ’10, has joined the staff at TARC Inc. as development/marketing coordinator. She previously spent 12 years in the banking industry.


Taylor Atkins, BA ’06, Delta Delta Delta, has been named communications strategist at FHLBank Topeka. She previously was a communications specialist for the Shawnee Mission School District.

Christina Barker, BSN ’09, received the award for Excellence in Nursing (Community) Service from the Eta Kappa Chapter-at-Large of Sigma Theta Tau.

David Bauer, MBA, is a project manager for CivicPlus.

Bryan Brutto, BA ’00 and MASL ’06, is an assistant principal and activities director at Blue Valley West in Overland Park, Kan.

April Coultis, MBA ’09, is a quality analyst for CivicPlus.

Betsy Daniel, BS ’07, MSSE ’10, married Jordan Ulrich on Sept. 3, 2011, in Billings, Mo.

Heath Elliott, MASL ’08, is an assistant principal and athletics director at El Dorado (Kan.) Middle School. He previously was a teacher and coach in the Winfield School District, where he taught middle school and high school math.

Amy Fennewald, MASL ’05, has been named the 2012-13 principal for Prairie View Elementary in Lee’s Summit, Mo. She currently works as assistant principal at Cedar Creek and Prairie View elementary schools. She is working on her doctorate in educational leadership at Baker.

Jessica Finch, BS ’00, Alpha Chi Omega, owns In Bloom floral designs in Bucyrus, Kan.

Andrew Gibb, MSSL ’10, is principal at Meadow Lane Elementary in the Lee’s Summit (Mo.) R-7 School District. He was previously the assistant principal in the Knob Noster School District and a fifth-grade teacher.

Becky Harris, MAEd ’08, MSSL ’10, is director of bands at Lansing (Kan.) Middle School and assistant director of bands at Lansing High School.

Brad Kuhbander, MBA ’09, is manager of media relations at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, Mich. He previously was manager of football information for the Kansas City Chiefs.

Laci Lingenfelter, BSN ’08, recently received the Excellence in Nursing Practice award from the Eta Kappa Chapter-at-Large of Sigma Theta Tau.

Todd McAtee, MASL ’09, is the boys basketball coach at Washburn Rural High School in Topeka, Kan. He previously was an assistant coach at Shawnee Mission East.

Ashley Ohlman, BS ’06, married Joseph Pence on Nov. 26, 2011, in Wichita, Kan. She is a physical education teacher at Bishop Carroll High School in Wichita, where they live.

Kevin Oldham, MBA ’07, vice president of United Country Marketing Services, has been recognized as a 2012 Rising Star by KC Business magazine. The third annual program honors outstanding Kansas City leaders under the age of 40 in both for-profit companies and not-for-profit organizations.

Suzan Patton, SOE building certification ’04, is superintendent of USD 382 in Pratt, Kan.

Brian Sheppard, BS ’06, is the offensive coordinator at Willamette University in Salem, Ore. He previously coached at the University of Tulsa, New Mexico State University and University of California at Los Angeles. More recently he served short stints at West Virginia Wesleyan University and Alderson-Broaddus College (W. Va.) as the offensive coordinator, quarterbacks coach and academic counselor.

Michelle (VanDeCreek) Swift, BSN ’01, and her husband, Travis, will celebrate their 11th anniversary in August. They welcomed their first child, Abigail Veronica Swift on Feb. 5, 2011.

Chris Marshall, BA ’95, vice president of account management at Callahan Creek, has been recognized as a 2012 Rising Star by KC Business magazine. Chosen by an independent panel of area business and civic leaders, the honorees are Kansas City professionals under the age of 40 who are selected based on their dedication to corporate success, accomplishments in professional endeavors and commitment to community and philanthropic activities. The Rising Star nominees were profiled in the February 2012 issue of KC Business magazine.

Mary Strahan, BA ’98, and her husband, Jim Anderson, welcomed a baby girl, Rosemary Eileen, on Aug. 19, 2011.

Mary Strafuss, MSM ’96, is product manager for graphic inks at Nazdar SourceOne, based in Shawnee, Kan.

Ty Theurer, MASL 08, is the principal at South Central High School in Coldwater, Kan. He and his wife, Jennifer, have two sons, Grant and Grady. He previously taught agriculture classes at Chaparral High School for 11 years.

Nathan Wesselowski, BMP (voice) ’94, and Amy Joan Pauls were married on Dec. 27, 2011, at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in Inman, Kan. Nathan works at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music. The couple lives in Milwaukee, Wis.


Kristi (Sanders) Speicher, ’84, Phi Mu, was named Quality Teacher of the Month for March at Independence (Kan.) High School. She has worked at the school district since 1985.

Adam Skelton, ’86, Zeta Chi, administers the Steven M. Teutsch Prevention Effectiveness Fellowship at the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It is the largest and most selective post-doctoral training program in health economics and the decision sciences in the United States. He lives in Gainesville, Ga., with his wife, Kathy, and children, Jackson, 5, and Juliette, 2.


Julia Chanay, BS ’72, Phi Mu, is in her 40th year teaching physical education. She taught in the Kansas City, Kan., school system for 15 years, Olathe school system for 17 years and at Bonner Springs for eight years.

Marty Conrad, ’76, is president of Wyoming Senior Olympics.

Janice Evans, BME ’73, Alpha Chi Omega, is the choir director of the First United Methodist Church of Safford, Ariz.

Jeanne Stanley, ’75, Delta Delta Delta, is assistant professor of theatre at the University of Missouri Science and Technology in Rolla, Mo.

Becky (Milloy) Vrbas, ’78, Delta Delta Delta, is the principal at Indian Trail Middle School in Olathe, Kan. She and her husband, Dennis, became grandparents on Feb. 9, 2012, welcoming Lyla Grace.


Ira, ’67 and Carol (Massie) Williams, ’67, Phi Mu, have retired after more than 40 years in ministry by Ira and teaching by Carol. They live in the Lake of the Ozarks, Mo.
