Collins Center gets new look

Jennifer Letner paints a Wildcat on the Wall of Collins Gym.

Fraternity and Sorority Life Coordinator Jen (Jackson) Letner, ’93, played a major role in enhancing the Collins Center for the start of the 2012-2013 Baker basketball season.

Letner, who received an art degree from Baker in 1993, painted a large Wildcat on the west wall of the gym to complement the newly painted, dark blue walls and orange stripes by Jay VonBargen, supervisor of general maintenance and special projects. The walls inside the Collins Center had been off-white and light gray since the building was completed in 1985.

Letner overcame her fear of heights to paint the Wildcat logo.

“So many people had worked hard on this project and I knew I only had four days to complete the painting,” said Letner. “I didn’t have enough time to be nervous up there and it really helped me get over my fear of heights.”

The painting of the Wildcat has been a family affair. Letner’s sister, Jill Boyle, ’97, graduated from Baker with an art degree and painted the Wildcat logo on the east wall of the Collins Center in 2000.
