Gathright wins national championship
Senior sprinter Jeremy Gathright won the men’s 400-meter dash in a time of 46.62 to become an NAIA national champion.
Gathright also finished as the national runner-up in the men’s triple jump with his jump of 15.20 meters and earned his third NAIA All-America honor of the meet in the long jump with his eighth-place mark of 6.97 meters.
Senior Aaron Caldwell earned All-America status with his fourth-place finish in the men’s marathon. He finished the 26.2-mile race in a time of 2:30.18.
Tyler Sloan had an outstanding national meet as well with her third-place finish in the women’s 100-meter hurdles and earned All-America honors. She also took third in the women’s 400-meter hurdles in a time of 1:00.67.
Sloan earned her third All-America honor when she joined teammates Diamond Griffith, Khadijah Lane and Lauren Allen-Brown in the women’s 4 x 100-meter relay, which finished fifth in a time of 46.87.
Senior Lauren Breithaupt earned All-America status with her sixth-place finish in the women’s 5,000-meter race walk in a time of 27:31.91.
Kayla Hannam placed eighth in the women’s triple jump and earned All-America status with a jump of 11.68 meters.
Defending national champion Stephanie Nelson placed second in the javelin with a throw of 47.22 meters, and Katelyn Wolken took seventh with a throw of 41.77 meters. Cody Viergever placed sixth in the men’s javelin competition with a throw of 56.39 meters.
For the second straight year Baker’s Katie Thurbon was the runner-up in the pole vault. Her mark was 3.55 meters.
