Scholarship Gala & Auction 2014
2014 Gala Raises More Than $400,000 for Scholarships
Nearly 500 alumni, friends and corporate sponsors celebrated our talented Baker University students on April 12 at the annual Live from the Orange Carpet Gala and Auction at its new venue, the Overland Park Convention Center. We would like to thank all of you who attended, donated and sponsored this important event that supports student scholarships.
The Wildcat Athletic Band kicked off the fun-filled evening by leading the gala attendees from the auction area into the ballroom, and the DixieKats performed several times to the delight of the large crowd. At the end of the evening, Baker alumni Connor Bechard and Margo Rodewald sang a stirring rendition of “For Good” from the musical Wicked.
The event featured more than 150 silent auction items and the popular Fund a Scholar auction. During the evening Dr. Long saluted Andrew, ’70, and Peggy, ’68, Cherng of the Panda Restaurant Group for their $200,000 challenge to the night’s supporters. Their generous donation truly inspired the spirit of giving for the night.
We are proud to report that through corporate sponsorships, ticket sales, table hosts, silent and live auctions and Fund a Scholar, more than $400,000, the highest total in the history of the event, was raised toward Baker’s general scholarship fund. More than $1 million has been generated through the gala since 2008. On behalf of all Baker students, thank you again for your support of Baker University’s Gala and Auction to benefit scholarships. See you next year!
