Want to Be a 2013 Orientation Leader?

Serve as a Baker University ambassador to new students and their parents and family members.

Responsibilities

Orientation leaders are responsible for a wide range of activities. However, because of the nature of orientation, OLs should be prepared to perform additional duties that will help the program run smoothly. Below are initial tasks that all orientation leaders are expected to assist with:

  • Serve as a resource for new students and their parents and family members
  • Lead groups of new students and parents and family members on campus tours and through question-and-answer sessions covering a variety of topics
  • Facilitate panel discussions or take part in skits on a variety of topics
  • Set up and take down events for new-student orientation
  • Attend all OL training sessions and orientation programs, including arriving early to each of these activities
  • Exhibit a positive attitude toward new-student orientation programs and Baker University

Desired Skills

  • Desire to assist new students and their parents and family members during their transition to Baker University
  • Effective communication skills with a variety of people from diverse backgrounds in both small- and large-group settings: administrators, faculty members, parents and family members, students
  • Strong public speaking skills
  • Ability to improvise and think under pressure
  • Ability to act in a professional manner in all situations, including handling confidential issues and records
  • Positive attitude toward Baker University and new-student orientation

Qualifications

  • Maintain a 2.5 cumulative GPA
  • Maintain full-time Baker University student status (enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours)
  • Be involved in at least one on-campus student organization or program
  • Submit application by February 22
  • Attend training and meeting date listed in addition to the dates that will be announced for orientation

Training Dates
