The BIG Event | April 25, 2015

Join us for The Big Event, an annual national one-day community service project.

The Big Event was started at Texas A&M University for college students to say thanks to their communities. Help the Baker community say "Thank You" to Baldwin City and Lawrence by volunteering with a variety of community partners!

Arboretum Commission

Volunteers will work with with Roger Boyd and the Arboretum Commission to plant trees on our campus.

9 a.m. - Noon

Volunteers needed: 10

Location: Baldwin City campus

Baldwin City Community Theater ALL SPOTS FILLED

Volunteers will clean out the theater office. A lunch will be provided for volunteers who stay all day.

8 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Volunteers needed: ALL SPOTS FILLED

Location: Baldwin City

Baldwin City Public Library ALL SPOTS FILLED

Volunteers will work in the library washing windows and checking shelves for misplaced books.

9 a.m. - Noon

Volunteers needed: ALL SPOTS FILLED

Location: Baldwin City

Baldwin Primary Center Carnival

Volunteers are needed to help with food, games, setup, take-down, and other activities.

4 p.m. - 7 p.m.

Volunteers needed: 20

Location: Baldwin City

ComfortCare Homes ALL SPOTS FILLED

Volunteers will work on small landscape projects, like spreading mulch. There will also be opportunities for volunteers to interact with the 11 residents of ComfortCare Homes.

9 a.m. - Noon

Douglas County Master Gardeners

Volunteers will help members of the Master Gardeners Association paint screens in Tom Swan Park.

12:30 - 2 p.m.

Volunteers needed: 2

Homespun Hill Farm ALL SPOTS FILLED

Volunteers will transplant trees that will grow into a windbreak for the animals Homespun Hill Farm raises.

9 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Volunteers needed: ALL SPOTS FILLED

Legendary Project: Mobile Soup Kitchen

Volunteers will prepare, package, and distribute meals to the local community. Transportation will be provided. This opportunity is set up in shifts.

11 a.m. - 1 p.m.

3 p.m. - 5 p.m.

Location: Baldwin City

Willow Domestic Violence Center

Volunteers will help care for the center’s community garden.

10 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Volunteers needed: 10

Location: Lawrence

Wohletz Farm Fresh

Volunteers will complete small farming and gardening tasks on the farm.

10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Volunteers needed: 12
