Bachelor's Degree in Art Education
Baldwin City Campus
During your time as an Art Education major, we help you grow as an artist, an appreciator of art and an educator to ensure you have the knowledge and skill to pass on your love of art to future generations. The Bachelor of Arts in Art Education prepares you for a career as an art educator. During your time at Baker, you will work closely with the Department of Art and the Department of Education in pursuing teacher licensure in the field of Art.
The visual arts are among the oldest, most universal and most fundamental expressions of human culture. Art students at Baker work in a stimulating environment in which aesthetic sensitivity, self awareness and confidence building are developed together with skills in critical thinking and responsible risk taking.
The curriculum for the Art Education major is drawn from three subjects. Through your Studio Art courses, you will learn to create. You will study various media, working closely with faculty in and out of the classroom to learn about form, expression and technique. Through Art History courses, you will learn about the art of others throughout human history. You will observe techniques and methods of expression used by the world’s greatest artists.
Your Education coursework will teach you the skills needed to transfer your love of art to younger generations. With courses specific to teaching Art to general Education courses, you will leave Baker ready to take on a classroom of your own, where you can share, guide and inspire students, just as your Baker professors did for you.
