Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Science
Baldwin City Campus
Exercise science focuses on the theoretical and applied aspects of health, wellness and science, which are essential components for developing an individual's body, mind and spirit. This is accomplished by providing students a strong foundation in human anatomy and physiology, exercise physiology, kinesiology, therapeutic exercise, nutrition, fitness and health.
Baker exercise science students use a variety of standard equipment that they will work with in graduate schools and the private sector. Most of the equipment is contained in the department's Exercise Science Laboratory. Students use dynamometers, ergometers and several software packages throughout their academic courses and are have opportunities to conduct research and independent study projects. In addition, students complete a full-semester clinical experience in their area of interest where they are able to apply classroom knowledge in a practical setting.
A degree in exercise science can lead to a variety of careers in public organizations, private businesses and corporations, and health care organizations. Common employment options include sports performance, health education, and fitness and wellness professions. The exercise science degree also prepares students for admission into graduate programs such as athletic training, occupational therapy, physical therapy and more.
