Bachelor's Degree in Music Education

Baldwin City Campus

The Music Department, in cooperation with the Kansas State Department of Education, has designed the Bachelor of Music Education degree program to prepare students to succeed in the teaching profession following graduation. This degree program leads to preK-12 licensure in vocal, instrumental and the combined areas.

Closely aligned with the Baker University liberal arts philosophy, the BME program prepares a graduate who is technically capable as a music teacher and is able to involve critical inquiry and interdisciplinary relationships in successful music teaching.

Personal attention from a talented, experienced faculty, coupled with extraordinary performance opportunities, puts Baker's music program in an elite class. From your first days on campus, you will find plenty of opportunities to get involved. With numerous choral and instrumental ensembles and chamber groups, there is something for everyone.

As a Music Education major, you will also work with the Department of Education, gaining ample experience in the classroom. By spending time in area classrooms throughout your time at Baker, you will leave knowing education is for you and also knowing you have the skills and confidence to take on a classroom of your own.

Baker University's cooperative music therapy program is ideal for students who believe in the healing power of music. You begin by completing a BA in Music or a Bachelor of Music Education at Baker and then complete your certification at the University of Kansas.

Baker University is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music.
