Vocal Music Education Program
In addition to the core education requirements, students pursuing licensure in the field of Vocal Music (preK-12) must complete the following 67 hours of courses with a grade of C or better. The Music Education curriculum is divided into courses to enhance understanding of music theory, music history and music pedagogy and performance courses to provide a solid foundation in music performance:

One of the following four courses:

As a general music education major with a vocal emphasis, you will complete one semester of class voice and 8 semester hours of applied voice lessons:
- MU 207 Applied Lesson: Beginning Collegiate Voice
- MU 21XM Applied Primary Studio Lessons (3 hours total)
- MU 41XM Applied Primary Studio Lessons (4 hours total)
In addition to voice lessons, you will complete 2 hours of instrumental lessons:
- MU 21X Applied Secondary Instrumental (2 hours total)
In addition, you will take part in a large instrumental ensemble, as well as a choral, secondary and a chamber ensemble:
- MU 215 Applied Secondary Piano (2 hours)
- MU 2XX Choral Large Ensemble (2 hours total)
- MU 2XX Secondary Instrumental Large Ensemble (4 hours total)
- MU 2XX Chamber Ensemble (2 hours total)
As a capstone of your music education, you will prepare and perform a partial senior recital, choosing and preparing the repertoire with the guidance of a faculty adviser.
