Baker University 1A-5A Marching Festival

Baker University and the Baker University Bands will host the 13th annual Baker University 1A-5A Marching Festival on Wednesday, Oct. 12, at Liston Stadium on the Baker University campus.

Bands, color guards and drum lines may participate for ratings or for comments only in this KSHSAA- and MSHSAA-approved event. Audio comments of each judge, a performance DVD and an award plaque will be presented to each band, drum line and color guard entrant. A Grand Champion trophy will be awarded the highest-scoring band of the festival.

The festival will run on a 15-minute schedule. Bands, color guard units and drum lines will be accepted and scheduled based on earliest postmark and paid entry fees until all time slots are filled.

Entry Fees

  • Bands: $90
  • Color Guard Units: $45
  • Drum Lines: $35
  • A school entering all three units: $150

Deadline | Monday, Sept. 26

Entry fees are nonrefundable after entry deadline. However, it is anticipated that slots will be filled in advance of this date.

Judging Panel

 Rosa Adams-Bussard, Director of Bands, Olathe Northwest High School

Ms. Adams-Bussard is active in judging marching band, percussion and concert ensembles locally and at the national level.

Martin Dunlap, Former Director of Bands, Blue Valley High School, Stanley

Dr. Dunlap’s bands were consistent finalists at Bands of America Regional Championships and also traveled to numerous bowl parades and competitions and were 2001 Grand Champions of the Orange Bowl Festival in Miami, Fla.

Sid Showalter, Former Director of Bands, Hutchinson High School

Mr. Showalter is active as a clinician, drill designer and adjudicator in Kansas, as well as a marching band judge in Missouri and Illinois in association with the Judges Association of Mid America.

Jan Verboom, Director of Bands, Valley Center High School

Mr. Verboom has been involved with a number of ensembles and organizations as instructor or percussion arranger, including Goddard, Buhler, Derby, Olathe North, the Kansas Lions International and State Bands, the Performance Arts Foundation, the Kansas Masonic Band, and the Quad City Knights Drum and Bugle Corps.
