Bachelor's Degree in Physics
Baldwin City Campus
Baker University's physics majors get more hands-on experience in one year than many students at larger universities get in their entire college careers. Our small class sizes coupled with state-of-the art equipment ensure that student involvement is limited only by the desire to explore and learn.
Physics is both a body of knowledge and a process for investigating and understanding the natural world. The programs within the Physics Department aim to communicate both of these facets. Further, the programs aim to develop the quantitative reasoning and analytical skills vital for our graduates to fully participate in an increasingly technological society. The laboratory courses prevalent in your studies provide an introduction to basic experimental techniques and methods of data analysis.
The curriculum provides students with the necessary foundations to study physics or astronomy at the graduate level or to follow careers in a broad range of industries and government agencies. Recent graduates have worked closely with faculty to get into graduate programs across the nation.
Physics is a natural major for students following the preengineering partnership, in which you will spend three years at Baker and your last two years at either the University of Kansas or at Washington University in St. Louis.
The physics program also works with the Department of Education to prepare you for secondary licensure in physics – both alone and as a companion area of licensure. Students can also receive licensure in middle-level science.
Whether you want to teach, build, research or explore, your time at Baker will give you the knowledge and confidence to get your career moving.
