Broadway at Baker | The Most Exciting Week of Your Summer

Join talented high school students from around Kansas City for seven days of hard work, fun and excitement as you help bring a Broadway musical to the Baker University stage. Broadway at Baker is a partnership between the University and Music Theatre for Young People.

Intense Instruction in All Aspects of Musical Theatre Production

Each day brings hours of top-quality training in vocal music, dance and drama by Baker University faculty members, musical theatre veterans, and director Cary Danielson-Pandzik. The talented group will share its expertise as you create a first-class production. You will work with some of the most talented young people in the area and form lasting friendships.

Who

Broadway at Baker is open to students 13 to 18 years old. Each camp is limited to 55 students.

July 8-15 | Hot Mikado

East meets West head-on in this hilarious 1940s-style update of a Gilbert and Sullivan favorite. Featuring an intoxicating mix of styles and influences, classics such as "A Wand'ring Minstrel I" and "Three Little Maids" are transmuted into show-stopping blues, swing, hot gospel numbers and scorching torch songs. Find out what happens when the clean lines and color of Japanese design combine with the big band sights and sounds of popular American song and dance!

Hot Mikado is an excellent showcase for a culturally diverse cast. The music is stacked with stellar vocal arrangements, pulsing rhythm, and music that makes you and your audience want to get up and dance!

July 22-29 | All Shook Up

Inspired by and featuring the songs of Elvis Presley. Into a square little town in a square little state rides a guitar-playing roustabout who changes everything and everyone he meets in this hip-swiveling, lip-curling musical fantasy that'll have you jumpin' out of your blue suede shoes with such classics as "Heartbreak Hotel," "Jailhouse Rock," and "Don't Be Cruel."

Will true love prevail? ("Fools Fall In Love") Will the power of music win the day? Will this small town in the Midwest survive getting all shook up? These questions and more are answered as the characters come together for the finale ("Burning Love").

Broadway at Baker is no longer accepting registrations for female roles in the production of All Shook Up. Girls can now either be placed on a waiting list or can still register for Hot Mikado. Men are wanted for roles in both productions.
