Honor Band Festival & Concert
On Thursday, February 14, 2013 Baker University will host its fifteenth Annual Concert Honor Band Festival for area high school musicians. One hundred and eight outstanding instrumentalists representing Atchison, Baldwin City, Bonner Springs, DeSoto, Fort Scott, Jefferson West, McLouth, Olathe Northwest, Osage City, Osawatomie, Ottawa, Royal Valley, Spring Hill, and Wellsville high schools will experience the excellent teaching skills of outstanding music educator and conductor/clinician, Ms. Jodie Lin as she guides them through a day of outstanding music.
This day - long event will culminate with a 7:00 evening concert in Rice Auditorium on the campus of Baker University. This concert will feature the Baker University Symphonic Winds under the baton of Raymond James, Jr., Director of Bands at Baker University, and the High School Honor Band, directed by Ms. Jodie Lin, Fine Arts Coordinator of Curriculum Activities & Scheduling, Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools. Ms. Lin is also Conductor of the Midwest Winds, an adult community band in the Kansas City area.

The 7:00 P.M. concert in Rice Auditorium on the campus of Baker University is free and open to the public.

Built in 1955 and renovated in 1983, Rice Auditorium is the venue used by most of Baker’s visiting lecturers and performing artists. Rice is also the stage for Baker’s largest plays, performed and directed by the Theatre Department. The Music Department also utilizes Rice Auditorium to perform a variety of concerts. The auditorium, which seats approximately 880 people, is a great location that hosts a variety of intellectual and enjoyable events for students and the communities near Baldwin City. Rice Auditorium is handicap accessible.
