Welcome to Baker University

This canopy-based REU project offers students of all abilities the opportunity to exlore and learn.

Students will collect moss, lichen, bark and leaves from different levels up the trunk and out onto the branches of the study trees.

Students may discover new species, define new ecologies, explore new limits and reach new heights.

Tardigrades, or water bears, are microscopic animals that are easy to work with and allow students to embark on true taxonomic and ecological exploration.

The REU-Canopy Program is supported by the National Science Foundation. Participants receive a $500 per week stipend, housing and allowances for food and travel. Full participation in the site program, oral presentation, and submission of a final report are mandatory.

A student may participate in the program only one summer.
