Baker Wetlands
The Baker Wetlands consists of 573 acres located on the south side of Lawrence in Douglas County in northeastern Kansas. It is located approximately 45 miles west of Kansas City.
Maps of the Area
The area is open to the public during daylight hours. Two small parking lots are available to the public: one on the south side of 31st Street and one on Haskell Ave.
More than six miles of trails are available for walking and a brochure outlining a self-guided tour of the Boardwalk to Nature. Bring comfortable walking shoes and appropriate clothing for the season. At the north entrance, off of 31st Street, is an information kiosk with a supply of trail guides and a
bird species list and
vertebrate species list.
The Baker Wetlands is one of the most diverse habitats in Douglas County, home to many birds, flowers, plants and insects. Many of these are pictured in the Wetlands photo albums.
