In addition to the professional education requirements, students pursuing licensure in the field of history and government (6-12) must complete the following courses with a grade of C or better:

- HI 142 World Civilization III: Western Imperialism and Reaction, 1500-1870, 3 hours
- HI 143 World Civilization IV: The Rise of Globalism, 1870 to Present, 3 hours
- HI 226 Laboratory Course in Historical Method, 3 hours
- HI 346 History of Kansas: Its People and Cultures, 3 hours
- HI 436 Senior Thesis in History, 3 hours
- EC 111 Economics Analysis of Social Issues, 3 hours
- IN 101 Introduction to International Studies, 3 hours
- PS 115 Introduction to American Politics, 3 hours
- SO 115 Principles of Sociology, 3 hours
- SS 484 Teaching Social Studies in Secondary Schools, 3 hours
