Accident, Serious Injury or Illness
Definition
Emergency involving sickness, allergic reaction or injury. Immediate concern is to aid sick or injured person(s).
Procedure
- In case of serious accident, injury or illness, call 911 immediately and state your location.
- During business hours (8:30 a.m. – 6 p.m., Monday – Friday), contact the Administrative Office at 913.491.4432 to report the situation to director, dean or the vice president of your area, who will report the situation to the appropriate administrators, if needed.
- During evening hours (6 p.m. – 10 p.m.), contact the educational resources assistant on duty in your classroom complex:

- Personal safety is your first priority. Use protective equipment when in contact with blood or other bodily fluids. Latex gloves are in all first aid kits.
- The injured or ill person is to be moved or transported ONLY if there is imminent danger. Until qualified personnel arrive on the scene, you may want to notify the director of student health services if you need immediate help. Remain calm and provide assistance to the best of your abilities or begin first aid if qualified.
- First aid kits are located in each building:
- Overland Park administrative offices: first-floor break room, GSOE break room
- Overland Park classroom building: office of the evening resources assistant
- Lee's Summit classroom building: office of the evening resources assistant
- Northland classroom building: office of the evening resources assistant
- Topeka administrative offices: break room
- Topeka classroom building: office of the evening resources assistant
- Wichita administrative offices: break room
- Wichita classroom building: office of the evening resources assistant
- After the emergency situation is handled, follow these steps:
- Call director of human resources, 785.594.8362, to report the incident if the injured or ill person is a Baker employee.
- Report biohazards (blood, other bodily fluids, or medical waste) to the director of SPGS/GSOE operations (913.344.6076) or the educational resources assistant on duty.
- Maintain confidentiality of those involved.
- Employees, report the situation to your supervisor, director, dean or the vice president of your area, who will report the situation to the Command Center Team, if needed.
