You guessed it, I joined the madding crowd this weekend, and went to see Mission Impossible. Indeed, with all the publicity about this flick, coupled with one of the most ear-catching theme songs in existence, who could avoid it?

Everywhere you turn, its Tom Cruise's face here or Lalo Schrifin's melody there. Its everywhere! And is it worth the buzz? I'd like to throw a few observations in with the plethora of commentary, critique and craziness out there already!

Firstly, I think every well dressed person needs a rubber face. Beautiful concept this, with a rubber face, I can be plain Anne Daugherty today, but tomorrow I could be Elvis!

Secondly, film writers are certainly suffering greatly since the end of the cold war. With no more brilliant red criminals anymore, where can the West turn to demonstrate its infinite superiority? The latest Bond saga paved the way, by turning inward to fight against themselves. Mission Impossible follows Bond's lead.

I won't spoil the plot, but you get a clue that one of the good guys has to turn bad when everyone except Tom Cruise is killed in the first twenty minutes of the movie!

Still, its gripping and a relatively good yarn, with enough action and adventure to make me exhausted just watching. There's a nice scene involving a rat seemingly scary to even the most hardened of criminals. And who knew that sweating could be so darn exciting?

Nice to see Jon Voight back again, but I can't help but wonder if he really looks like that? Gosh, it is that long since Deliverance and Coming Home? Watch for Emilio Estevez, too, he's not listed on the credits, but he's there!

Mission Impossible screened 23 times in Tallahassee over the weekend, and I bet every member of every audience brightened when Lalo Schrifin's music blared over the speakers (Sound Bite).

Danny Elfman, you'll remember him from the Batman movies, rescored the theme to suit the 90's remake of the 60's classic. Elfman changed the 5/4 theme into a dance-friendly 4/4 time. Since we live in a binary world, most music is in 2/4 or 4/4. Schrifin says he wrote the original theme "for people from outer space who have five legs".

To answer my original question - is it worth it? Absolutely!! Don't miss this film for the world, and stay tuned to see what actor/producer Tom Cruise does next. Since he's shown that he alone can be trusted with an impossible impossible mission, what will he do now?

I read recently that Snow White is making a comeback with Sigourney Weaver as the stepmother and Sam Neill as Snow's Dad. The movie is called Snow White in the Black Forest and reportedly puts the grim back into the Grimm Brothers.
