The Baker Wetlands is currently 573 acres located on the south side of Lawrence, Douglas County in northeastern Kansas. It is located approximately 45 miles west of Kansas City.
The area is open to the public during daylight hours. There are currently two small parking lots available to the public. One is on the south side of the 31st Street and the other is on Haskell Ave. (see Location).

There are over 6 miles of trails to walk as well as a Self-guided Trail Brochure for the Boardwalk to Nature. Bring comfortable walking shoes and appropriate clothing for the season. At the north entrance off of 31st Street there is an information kiosk with a supply of trail guides as well as a bird species list and vertebrate species list. Further down this website there is a list of links to other pertinent websites about various aspects of the Wetlands. There are many birds, flowers, plants and insects to observe on the area. It is one of the most diverse habitats in Douglas County. Many of these and more are illustrated at Wetlands Albums.
