Jessica Walters Ohlde
Jessica Walters Ohlde is regarded as one of the greatest female athletes in University history. A leader in several statistical categories, Ohlde was an NAIA All-American in volleyball and lettered in track.
Brad & Terry Roepke
Brad and Terry Roepke, brothers from Waterville, Kan., transferred to Baker after successful football careers at junior colleges. Brad was a standout at Highland and Terry at Coffeyville. At Baker they anchored a stingy defense for Coach Charlie Richard. The Roepkes enjoyed numerous conference, district and national honors as Wildcat players.
Fred Calvin Purvis, Jr.
Fred Purvis was a four-year letter winner in football and baseball. He started on defense at safety in football. He had a career .400-plus batting average and was a four-time all-conference selection and all-district 10 and NAIA All-American his junior and senior years. He enjoyed a long career in amateur softball, where he played on numerous local championship teams, participated in national tournaments and was a member of a national championship coed team. He worked as an assistant for home football games in the press box for more than 20 years at Baker.
William D. White
Bill White came from a successful junior college career at Chanute and lettered for two years in football, basketball and track at Baker. In football, White played quarterback and led the Wildcats to the 1958 conference championship. He was named to the All-Methodist All-American first team. He spent much of his career in coaching and school administration.
Robert V. Courtney
Bob Courtney was a four-year letter winner in basketball and track. He ran the high and low hurdles and was the conference champion in the high jump as a senior. Courtney spent most of his career teaching math at Baker University, serving several years as the University’s athletic representative.
Patti Phillips
A four-year starter in basketball, Phillips was the head women’s basketball coach at Ottawa University, where she led the Braves to the top of the
Carl Danzig
Danzig served two years as captain of the basketball team and ranks sixth on the school’s scoring list with 1,732 points. He went on to coach as a graduate assistant at the University of Missouri at Kansas City, where he earned a master’s degree before becoming an assistant at Bucknell University. During his 11-year tenure there, the Bison posted a 180-135 record and were the Patriot League championship runner-up four times. In 2001, he was named head coach at the University of Scranton in Scranton, Pa. He has led the Royals to an 179-91 record and to a “Sweet-16” appearance at the NCAA Div-III tournament following a 24-win season in 2003. In 2010-11, he led the Royals to a record of 21-7 and the school’s 20th appearance in the NCAA tournament.
Bobby Bates
Bates ranks second on Baker’s career receiving chart with 1,945 yards, leading the Wildcats in receiving for three consecutive seasons. He also is No. 1
Greg Mohns
A two-year letterman on the offensive line, Mohns was an assistant coach at Oklahoma State and Arizona State before joining the staff of the Kansas City Chiefs, where he held numerous positions over six years. In 1991, he began a career in the Canadian Football League, where he was director of player personnel and assistant general manager for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. He served a year as director of player personnel for the Memphis Mad Dogs in 1995 before becoming the assistant general manager and director of football operations for Toronto in 1996 when the Argonauts won the Grey Cup Championship. He serves as director of player personnel for the Omaha Nighthawks of the UFL.
Liesel Kirk-Fink
A three-time All-American in track and field and cross country, Liesel Kirk-Fink is perhaps the most decorated runner in Baker University’s history. During her senior season, Kirk-Fink placed fourth at the NAIA outdoor nationals in the 5,000-meter run, the culmination of a career that includes 11 school records. On campus, she was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority and the parMentors.
