A Washington D.C. native, Ian Hankins comes to Baker University after serving as an assistant coach of cross country and track and field at St. Johns College. While at St. Johns his women’s cross country team placed third in the WCAC and placed eighth at the DC/MD/VA Private School State Meet.

Coach Hankins brings extensive knowledge within the running industry. Currently, Hankins serves as part owner of the Track and Cross Country Journal. His main focus is editing and social media market research within the company.

Hankins attended college at Muskingum University (Ohio) where he served as a two-year captain and was a three-time NCAA Regional Qualifier in Cross Country. Hankins holds the No. 2 fastest 10,000-meter time in school history on the track.

Post collegiality, Hankins placed 10th overall in the Parks Half Marathon and 65th in the Marin Corps Marathon, good enough for a qualifying time in the Boston Marathon. Coach Hankins will work primarily with the Wildcat distance runners.

Mackie Valentin enters his eleventh season as an assistant coach for the Wildcat track program and for the first time in 2013, Coach Valentin will be a full-time member of the athletics coaching staff. Valentin has coached multiple All-HAAC and NAIA All-American performers. Coach Velentin has helped rewrite and set new performance records for the Baker track and field program.

Some of Valentin’s most notable achievements include: NAIA National Runner-Up in the women’s pole vault and the men's high hurdles, NAIA All-Americans in the men’s high hurdles, long jump, triple jump, and multi events for both the men and women. Valentin has also coached numerous NAIA relay national qualifiers while claiming multiple individual HAAC Champions.

Valentin attended Shawnee Mission West High School followed by three semesters at Fort Scott Community College. He then transferred to Baker to participate in track & field and football. Valentin was part of the 2000 Baker football team that won the KWTO Bowl with a decade best 9-2 overall record. He was recognized as a unanimous All-HAAC receiver, offensive MVP, and was voted to the NAIA All-America team.

Coach Valentin has a daughter, Jovee Leigh and currently resides in Overland Park, Kan.

Keith Pipkin has been alongside head coach Joe Ahmadian since his start 2 years ago. Together they have taken the Baker Men’s and Women’s teams from last in the HAAC to a 3rd place finish at the conference tournament in 2012.

As well as being assistant coach at Baker, he also coaches at Jayhawk Tennis Center in Lawrence, KS. A Lawrence native, Pipkin has worked at the center since his senior year of high school in 06’.

Pipkin also played tennis at Baker University during his junior and senior year; having played his first two years at Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, KS. As a junior, Pipkin played 3 for the wildcats and then finished his career playing number 1 as a senior. Pipkin was named the Champions of Character Athlete of the Month his senior year, an award selected by fellow coaches at Baker for athletes who demonstrate great character and leadership qualities.

Pipkin started his career as Assistant Coach during his 3rd year at Baker while he finished up his undergraduate degree in Business Marketing.

Nomination Procedures

Anyone is eligible to write an open letter of nomination regarding an individual they believe to be worthy of induction to the Baker University Athletic Hall of Fame. The nominations must be received by December 31 to be considered for induction during the next calendar year. Once an individual is nominated, he or she remain in an active file for review by the Hall of Fame Selection Committee. The selection committee sends recommendations in the spring to the President of the University for final approval for fall induction.
