Johnie Seals, Jr.
Johnie was recruited and enrolled at Baker in the fall of 1976 after a highly successful high school career at Booker T. Washington High School in Tulsa, Okla., where he earned letters in basketball and baseball his senior year. He was an important member of the basketball team that went to the Oklahoma 3A State Championships.
At Baker, Johnie made an immediate contribution to the basketball team and lettered all four years. He showed his ability to adapt to differing coaching styles and offenses as he played for a different head basketball coach each year while at Baker. He started three years and ended up setting several individual and school records. During his four years he scored a total of 1,307 points, a school record that stood for several years.
He also set additional school records on the court for the Wildcats with 153 free throws in one season and he made the highest percentage of free throws in a season at 84.1%. He finished his four years with the highest percentage of free throws made during his career with a mark of 81.1%.
During his senior year, he also led the team in rebounding and in shot blocking where he averaged seven rebounds per game and had a total of 18 blocked shots. For his efforts, he was named to the first-team all-conference team. Not only was he a great basketball player, but he was well liked by fellow students on campus. He was voted the most outstanding senior male student at Baker at his graduation ceremony in the spring of 1980.
Following college, he returned to his home in Tulsa and began a career in business that has taken him from the field of accounting to the area of IT. He has spent the past 15 years working as an IT specialist for the Williams Companies and at IBM.
During his years following graduation he has volunteered hundreds of hours to coaching youth football, basketball and baseball teams in the Tulsa area. Several of the teams he has coached have earned the right to compete in national tournaments across the country.
He is a member of St. Luke Baptist Church in Tulsa and he is married to LeGina R. Seals. Together they have three children, LeLana, Anthony Jr. and Johnie III.
