Forever Orange: The Campaign for Baker University

IMPACT STORIES

Scott and Tammy Grauer

Everyone loves a good love story. And we really love a good Baker University love story. This particular story is about Scott, ’86, and Tammy Carter, ’87, Grauer.

Scott came to Baker in the fall of 1982 to play football for the Wildcats under the direction of legendary coach Charlie Richard. A business major and member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity, Scott was an extremely busy student-athlete and business major. He met Tammy Carter during his sophomore year.

Tammy grew up in Colorado and transferred to Baker in the spring of 1984. She chose to transfer because of the faculty at Baker. She knew right away that they cared about her educational goals and about her success as a person. She quickly became involved with Zeta Tau Alpha sorority and joined the cheerleading squad. She majored in psychology.

“Not only did Baker provide me with a degree, it encouraged me to want to be the best that I could be in each aspect of my life: in my career, as a wife, as a mother, as a daughter, as a sister, and as a friend,” Tammy said.

Scott and Tammy, who were married in 1987, have four sons. They live in Oklahoma, where Scott serves as the executive vice president, Wealth Management, CEO at the Bank of Oklahoma Financial Securities.

For both Scott and Tammy, Baker has always been about the people they’ve met and how attending Baker pushed them to make their educational goals a reality.

“Baker’s people are genuine—professors and staff that are passionate about teaching, students that are passionate to learn and grow in all that they take on in every aspect of their academic and social lives. Once a person experiences and lives the Baker life, they are Forever Orange,” Scott said.

With young-adult children, including a son in college, Scott and Tammy know how important the value of a good education is for today’s student. It’s for this reason, along with many others, that they choose to be part of the Forever Orange campaign.

“The campaign is an opportunity to give back to the truly remarkable experience that has made Tammy and myself who we are today,” Scott said. “While no one will have the exact same experiences or outcomes that we have had, we know that there have been, and will be, thousands more experiences equally remarkable and rewarding.”
