A Concordia, Kan., native, Kayla Smith comes to Baker University after serving as an assistant coach of track and field at Cloud County Community College. In her first season at Cloud County, Kayla had three national qualifiers in five events, and three national placers.

Alongside head coach Ted Schmitz, she helped Anna Linton finish third at the NJCAA meet in the women’s shot put with a throw of 44’1.5”. Dwight Davidson finished 5th in the men’s javelin with a distance of 198’7”, and Dakota Weber finished seventh in the men’s discus with a throw of 161’9”. Weber also qualified in the hammer and Linton in the discus. Smith is also a certified personal trainer through the National Council on Strength and Fitness.

She enjoys motivating others to set and reach their personal fitness goals. Her experience and knowledge with weight lifting, nutrition, and cardiovascular conditioning helps her clients and athletes achieve optimal results. Kayla attended Kansas State University on a track scholarship where she placed in the shot put at the Big 12 indoor meet her freshman year. After having shoulder surgery, she transferred to Texas State University to finish out her college-throwing career. At Texas State, she recognized her passion for coaching track and strength & conditioning and was one of her key responsibilities. She was also the throws coach for Xtreme Force Track Club in Austin, Texas. Kayla was also a nationally ranked shot putter and two-time high school state champion.
