New Library Facility Entrances and Hours

Is Collins Library more than a library? Yes, Collins Library is a place of community gathering, discovery, learning, and creation--an Information Commons. It is a technology and information resource center. The library functions, including the print collections, are found on the 2nd and 3rd floors, but electronic library resources are available anywhere on the Internet. Computer classrooms and labs provide technology support to the academic mission of the University. Learning Resources staff and tutors assist students with their specialized learning needs.

Where is the entrance to the library?
  • The entrance to the library is from the Northeast steps into the building which leads to the second floor. This entrance is open whenever the library proper is open for service.
  • The South Entrance on the 1st Floor is open to the public whenever the library proper is open, but requires a Baker ID for card access to the facility when the library proper is closed. The Commons area just inside the South Entrance is open 24-hours a day, 7-days a week.
  • The Archives Entrance, facing East on the 1st Floor, is open 8am-5pm, Monday-Friday for easy access to the University Archives.
  • The Quayle Entrance on 8th Street provides easy access to the Quayle Rare Bible Collection. This entrance is open 8am-5pm, Monday-Friday and 1-5 pm on Saturday and Sunday. A stairwell in the Quayle lobby leads to the Archives below as well as provides access to the whole 1st Floor. Please note: access to the library is not possible from the Quayle Lobby. You must use the Library Entrance or one of the entrances on the 1st floor.

What about handicapped access? Handicapped access is much improved from the old building. A ramp leads up to the Library Entrance on the North side of the building. Sidewalks leading to the Quayle Entrance are sloped and all steps have been eliminated. On the 1st Floor both the South and the Archives Entrances are handicapped accessible. A new elevator provides access to all 3 floor of the facility once you are inside.

Where are the computer labs? The building as a whole is one large computer lab. Clusters of PCs can be found as follows:

  • Two (2) computer classrooms on the 1st floor. Each have 24 PCs and are available for use when they are not scheduled for classes. These rooms will be locked when the library proper closes.
  • The Commons. This open space inside the South Entrance is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. A Baker ID will be needed for card access to the facility once the library proper has closed for the day. 16 PCs are available for use in The Commons.
  • The Library Instruction Room on the 2nd floor. This small classroom has 9 PCs and is available for use when it is not scheduled for instruction.
  • Open Library PCs. On the 2nd floor there is a cluster of 15 PCs in the area behind the Reference Desk. There are also several PCs in the area next to the stained glass windows on the 2nd floor. A-V rooms on the 1st and 2nd floors and the Music Listening Room on the 3rd floor also have 2-4 multi-media PCs.
