| Baker Wetlands: On Display in Collins Library |
![]() |
Regarded by many as sacred and historical grounds, the Baker Wetlands, now serve as home to over 255 species of birds as well as many other plants and animals, a boardwalk to nature information center, and a walkway promoting wetlands education. PAST Historically, the area was used by American Indians of the Kanza tribe, no longer in existence. In 1857 the region was platted and acquired by homesteaders. These plots changed hands several times before being purchased by the Bureau of Indian Affairs between 1890 and 1902. (complete story) |
