Selecting and Reviewing Business Books
Choosing a Book to Read
Popular Sites
Just a note: A list such as Amazon's is based upon volume of sales, and is not necessarily an indicator of quality of content.
Amazon.com
Amazon produces a list of the "Best Business Books" each year.- In the left navigation area, select: Books and then, Books again.
- On the next screen, in the left navigation area under Browse Books, select: Business and Investing.
- Again, on the new screen, in the left navigation area, select any specialized business subjects.
Barnes and Noble.com
Barnes and Noble.com produces lists of their available books.- From the links at the top, select: Browse Books
- In the new window labeled Browse Books by Subject, scroll down to Nonfiction and select: Business & Money.
- From the navigation column on the left, select any of the specialized subjects you find interesting.
- Once you select a title, often you will find an overview and editorial reviews.
Scholarly Sites
Baker Library at the Harvard Business School
-
Librarians at Baker are certainly business book savvy. Their list of new acquisitions can serve as a list of best business books.
The Industrial Relations Library at Princeton University
-
This group publishes selected references in an annotated bibliography, issued biannually. The July issue features noteworthy books in industrial relations, including the winner of the Richard A. Lester award. Issues are available electronically through this site or upon request.
Digitized Books
netLibrary
Baker University subscribes to about 9,000 titles from the digitized database of books. You won't be able to download the entire book, but you will be able to read it page by page, online.
Here's an idea.... If you have procrastinated to the point that you don't have time to leave home to buy a book, you can find a digital copy right at your computer.
