Arts festival to highlight University talents

Baldwin City, Kan. — ARTSmosphere, an arts festival showcasing the talents of Baker University undergraduate and graduate students, faculty and staff, will close the Artist and Lecture Series for 2009-2010 on Friday, April 16, on the Baldwin City campus.

The event, featuring music, artwork and a student theater performance, will be at McKibbin Recital Hall in the Owens Musical Arts Building and at Rice Auditorium. The musical events will be at 6:30 p.m. The Department of Theatre’s “Deathtrap” will be at 7:30 p.m. at Rice Auditorium. Admission is free to Baker University students, faculty and staff, and $15 for the general public and $10 for youths.

Student visual art and jewelry from undergraduate and graduate students will be on display at Ebright Court, the courtyard between Rice Auditorium and Owens. The faculty and students will be on hand to discuss their work.

Musical highlights include the following:

Marvin Hunt, vice president and dean of the School of Professional and Graduate Studies, will perform classic blues on guitar. Hunt’s lengthy musical career includes performance and recording with The Kelley Hunt Band, Lee McBee, The Stringers, and other well-known regional artists. He has shared stages with the Fabulous Thunderbirds, Anson Funderburgh and many national acts.

Anne Daugherty, associate professor and chair of Graduate Liberal Arts, will direct an amalgam choir of School of Professional and Graduate students, alumni and her choir from Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Daugherty’s church choir will perform in Italy later this summer.

J.D. Parr, associate professor of music, will perform with his saxophone quartet and jazz combo.
