NEWS RELEASE Junior pre-medicine major selected as Stowers ScholarBaldwin City, Kan. — Baker University junior Christine Janssens, a pre-medicine major from Kansas City, Mo., has been selected as a 2010 Summer Scholar at the Stowers Institute in Kansas City. The Stowers Scholars Program June 6-July 30 is an eight-week summer experience in a stimulating scientific environment with state-of-the-art laboratories equipped with the most advanced technology. Science students will benefit from the Institute’s commitment to training in a unique environment that emphasizes its interdisciplinary approach to research. To be considered for the program, candidates must be undergraduate students enrolled in a degree-granting program in biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics, chemistry, physics, computing, engineering, mathematics or a related field. They also must have completed 60 credit hours of undergraduate coursework with at least a 3.5 GPA. The scholars will be placed with a mentor in a lab or support facility and is given an opportunity to conduct significant basic biomedical research utilizing cutting-edge technology and the most advanced research techniques. ###
